Greenslip prices vary from insurer to insurer and are regulated by the Motor Accident Authority (MAA). Each insurer determines greenslip prices based on varying factors. Using the information you supply the insurer with, they will evaluate the total cost of your greenslip.
The key factors used by insurers to determine the premiums they will charge are as follows:
- Past driving record (includes number of demerit points, number of traffic offences, number of demerit points and number of years licenced)
- Vehicle type
- Vehicle age
- Vehicle owner’s age
- Vehicle driver’s ages
- Geographic location
- Vehicle performance
- Claims history (that is, level of insurance and no claim bonus, plus number of at-fault claims)
In regards to geographic location, there are five regions that have been designated by the MAA. They are Sydney Metropolitan, Outer Metropolitan, Wollongong, Newcastle/Central Coast and Country. Insurers are prohibited to differentiate based on locations within a specified geographic region.
