With natural disasters and flooding on the rise, it’s wise to consider taking out some form of Flood Protection Cover. There are several factors we take into consideration when determining the type of premium you will pay and we will usually take into account: where you live and if your area is considered to be a ‘low to high- risk’ suburb.
Mutual Care can offer much needed flexibility when it comes to choosing the right level of flood cover for your home.
What is a flood?
A flood can best be described as an area that is covered or submerged by water either through flash flooding, storm water, excessive rainfall, river overflow or sea related floods.
Typically there are 3 types of flood cover available:
Often occurs from intense water bursts over a short-duration of time. Most but not all insurance policies will cover this risk. Contact a Mutual Care representative to discuss this matter further.
Usually caused by an overflow from rivers, creeks or artificial catchments. Usually happens due to prolonged rainfall over a larger area.
An overflow caused by movement in seawater and unstable weather patterns. Properties located near the sea are often exposed to this type of risk including damage related to rust and erosion.
Important Note: Some states like NSW, ACT and Tasmania automatically receive Flood Cover under a Home, Landlord and Strata Title policy. If you’re unaffected by floods but are considered to live in a flood prone area, then you should still consider reviewing your policy.
